DECEMBER 29 READING…REVELATION 21
The final judgment has taken place. Satan, the Antichrist, the false prophet, along with every soul that rejected Jesus as Savior are in hell for eternity. No reprieve, no hope, just utter and outer darkness for eternity. Those who have put their trust in Jesus are with Him for eternity. All things that have been touched by sin will consumed by the fire of God…heaven, earth, and all creation…all things must be made new. John describes our eternal home as the “new Jerusalem” …a beautiful city that comes from God, like a bride adorned for her husband. God will forever be with His people, and His people will forever be in His presence. He will wipe away all tears, and there will be no more sadness, crying, pain, or death…these things no longer exist. We who have put our trust in Jesus will inherit all the things of God.
John then gives us a description of our heavenly home. He describes it as a city of light from the glory of God, with twelve gates named after the tribes of Israel…it’s twelve foundations with the names of the twelve apostles. This whole city represents the redeemed of all time…both Old and New Testament saints. The city is described as a perfect cube…approximately 1500 miles perfectly cubed. It is a beautiful city adorned in precious stones. There was no temple…for the presence of God the Father and God the Son will be the temple. There is no night there, and no need of a sun for light…for Jesus is its eternal light. Only those who are made righteous through faith in Jesus will be in this eternal home…all the rest who died in their sin will be cast out into utter darkness.
