APRIL 24, 2024 ~ A WALK THROUGH THE NEW TESTAMENT

APRIL 24 READING…JOHN 15

The truth of the Christian life is that we are totally dependent upon Jesus for everything. We cannot do anything in the kingdom of God apart from being in Jesus. Our Christian life is about Jesus being in us…but it is also about we being in Jesus. John draws the analogy of Jesus being the vine, and we who are His followers being the branches. The fruit of the plant always comes from the vine…for the branches cannot produce any fruit apart from being attached to the vine. It is the same way with our Christian faith. The result found in our Christian life is because we abide in Christ…it’s His result, not ours. Once again Jesus tells us that His command for us is that we love one another. There is a special bond, or love, that is the result of being a follower of Christ who abides in Him. The Lord chose us to follow Him and to demonstrate that we are His followers by loving one another. Jesus reminds us that we need to love one another, because the world will hate us. They hated our Lord, they will hate us. If they treat Him with disdain, we can expect that they will treat us the exact same way. But, then the Lord reminds us that we don’t have to face this opposition alone…for He has sent us His sweet Holy Spirit.
