APRIL 22 READING… JOHN 12

Jesus visits the house of His friends, Lazarus, Martha, and Mary. Mary came and took some expensive oil and poured it on Jesus’ feet…she then wiped His feet with her hair. Judas acted like he had a problem with what he called wasted money that could have been given to the poor. The truth was he really wanted the money, because he was the keeper of the money, and he stole money from the disciple’s bag. Jesus left Bethany and entered Jerusalem, this was Palm Sunday, and the people treated Him like a king entering His city. They could not understand the significance of this day…nor could the actually know that they were welcoming the King to His city. The religious leaders became very concerned that the people were turning to follow Jesus, and that would result in the religious leaders losing their hold on the people.

Jesus begins to teach God’s truth to the people, which actually accelerated the opposition of the Sanhedrin, led by Caiaphas. Jesus uses the analogy of a grain of seed being planted, to teach about His own death and Resurrection. He declares again that He came for this very purpose. Even with all the miracles that Jesus had done before the people, they refused to believe Him or His teachings. Jesus then teaches the consequences of both believing in Him and rejecting Him. He tells them that He has come from God, who is His Father, and that the things He is speaking also come from God. Everyone there needed to decide on whether they would believe Jesus or not. Nothing has changed…today we each still must decide as to whether we will believe Jesus, believe in Jesus, or reject Christ. The decision we make will have eternal consequences…for either good, or for bad.

Please share any thoughts you have from today’s reading.
